Following the conquest of Mesopotamia by the Persians, the Babylonian priesthood fled to Pergamum in Asia Minor. Here they erected the Acropolis temples of Pergamum in honor of the Greek Pantheon, but continued to worship the Babylonian mystery god under the name of Saturnus.
